University of Oregon Technology Entrepreneurship Program

OWET is working to facilitate connections between ocean renewable energy companies and the University of Oregon Technology Entrepreneurship Program (TEP), a unique and synergistic partnership of University of Oregon College of Business, the Office of Technology Transfer, the School of Law, the Graduate College, Oregon Health & Sciences University, Portland State University, and the Battelle Memorial Institute. This program provides opportunities for student teams to screen patented technologies invented by top research scientists from participating institutions.

Supported by advisers with experience in technology commercialization, each team explores issues including market opportunity, competitor analysis, marketing and sales strategies, business models, intellectual property evaluation and protection, value proposition, financial models, and exit strategies. The most successful and highly developed teams continue onto Venture Launch External Business Plan Competitions and present their business plans to bona fide venture capitalists, investors, and entrepreneurs, and successful participants receive investment capital and an opportunity to commercialize their technology.

In 2011, TEP selected two ocean RE device developers to participate, including Ocean Kinetics and Wavegenics.
